Part 1 of 2 The Artist Interview

It’s finally here!! Well not so much here as it’s on the vimeo site. You can checkout the first of two videos from the Disposable Art Show by just clicking HERE. I know it’s been a long time coming and I do apologize. Darryl Callender did all the filming for the night and we were patiently awaiting the end results and when they didn’t seem to come, a few calls and emails were made. I later found out that D was dealing with a few other things that came up. Now 100% and back at it he swung by and dropped this off. Hope you enjoy what a few of the artists had to say about their work and the event. The second video which is an overall view of the evening, still to come.

Thanks again to all of the artists and everyone involved in making this a successful event. We raised $2000 dollars so far for PMH.  We still have some of the decks from the show available. Check out this LINK to see them.

The next show will be benefiting a non-profit that’s currently in the works called Free Skates. More information to come in the upcoming weeks. This show will be a little different as well because it will focus on showcasing Canadian artists. More details to come.

a DISPOSABLE ART show

      A QUICK RED BULL BEFORE THE SHOW-THEN CHANGE CLOTHES & GO

First off, too many names to name. So I’m THANKING EVERYONE that came out and supported. Everyone that helped bring this together an extra thank you.

Last night was insane!! The turnout was incredible. The energy, vibe and positivity was through the roof. All the kids ripping it up on the mini ramp killed it! and the drop in from the balcony ledge was off the wall. 

You better act quick! A bunch of decks sold last night and a few more are selling this week. So…if your still interested in any pieces please contact me at Joey@freedomfighterskateboards.com before it’s too late! I ‘ll let you know what’s available. We won’t know exactly how much was raised till the end of the showing but it’s looking good!

The artist, I didn’t forget about you. How could I? Thank You all again so much. You all knocked it out the park! I’ll keep you posted on which decks Freedom Fighter will purchase and hang in the office allowing for everyone to have their chance. 

I’ll have Some single shots of the decks up hopefully this week. As well the rest of the event photos and video to follow(might take sometime with editing) but you’ll see them in the weeks to follow.

I have to say a BIG Thank You to Ken & Greg from The Bait Shop. You guys and the rest of the crew are amazing! I’ll need a second or two to rest, but I can’t wait to work with these guys again.

Everything is down to the wire

I still have a couple of decks coming in the mail via FedEx from the states and overseas. I know it’s last minute but at least it’s not late. 

Okay, here’s the answer to the question I’ve been asked the most. “what will the original decks be going for?” The whole point of the show is to raise money and awareness for Princess Margaret Hospital. As well, give you a chance to own an Original piece of art by one of you favorite artist or maybe discover one you never knew. So…with that in mind all pieces are going for $300 dollars, with some going for a bit more and some less based on what the artist requested and because of shipping. So nothing less than $200 and nothing more than $400

I’m being fair and not actually purchasing any pieces till after the show. If any are left?

Dan The Man

 

Dan Springer first caught my eye at an Omy Gallery Vans Shoes slip-on show, with this pretty incredible pair, as seen below. (changeable vinyl inserts)

I soon afterwards realized I’d seen his work before but never did know his name. When this show was being put together it slipped my mind to ask Dan. He contacted me and I felt bad because I really dig his work and all the decks were accounted for. Then the unthinkable happened. Someone had to back out last minute. So, I got a hold of Dan right away and with little time to spare he was game. The end result is going to be Insane. Check out the the unfinished and work in progress of Dan Springer‘s Deck. As well go to his Blog to see/read about the process, a worth while read. You have to see the final result! Only at the show of course’

 

One Month To The Day

 

So on Monday I finalized and sent off another deck design for the spring line(thanks Sean for your photoshop skills). Cutting it a little close, but thinking it’ll be here in time. I wish I could show you, actually I can’ but you’re just gonna have to wait. This deck turned out really well. I also got another deck in the mail yesterday from Dr. D out of the UK. I am definitely digging his piece and thanking him for his contribution and hoping he’s feeling better after being jumped for no reason walking down the street. Pointless violence, I don’t get it! I’m sending him good vibes and ask you to please do the same. This man is working 9 to 5 with little to no pay and still managed to fit this show in. Looking forward to your next two shows D’ 

30 decks 26 artists two photographers a videographer and three DJs are helping raise funds and awareness for The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation. 

As well, cheap drinks’ giveaways ‘ Spring Line launch and a very Limited Gold Foil Show Tee you can only get the night of.

The New Flyer, Take Two

So, this is the new flyer that has been sent off to the presses’ A second flyer? You might ask. Yes, reason being the last one was flattened. I know it’s a flyer and it’s already flat, but in printing terms it means “useless”. No need to fret, Ken from The Bait Shop(thank you fine sir) quickly banged out this nice sleek clean one for me. I never run out of enough good things to say about those chaps.

They also have a show tonight called BATTLE OF THE HANDS. Four artist will battle it out on four canvases. Limited Edition tees available only on the night of the show. You won’t want to miss it! Starts at 7pm and goes till 2am. Same address as above. See you there.

It is! Scott Campbell is definitely all man. I had heard about his work and seen it, but I’ve never actually held something of his or seen one of his tattoos in person. These pictures turned out great’ Thanks Maxine! but this is a piece you HAVE to see in person. I wanted to pull the money out of my pocket n snatch this up the second I saw it, but I had restraint. I wish this deck a happy home, and one lucky bastard will wake up smiling to this for years to come.

Thank You so much Scott!! You are incredible’ and I can’t thank you enough. So, thankyou’ So glad to hear you had a blast making it.
